Now look, we had the khaki arguement last week so let's just agree that this is khaki to me. And I say it 'KarKee' not 'Kakky'.
Anyway, so when I released the Satchel pattern my darling mother immediately piped up, "I'll have one of those for my birthday please". Of course it was only a couple of weeks to her birthday and though I rushed and panicked, a couple of days before her birthday I realised I'd rushed too much and put the snaps in the wrong place and it was a useless version. I apologised, put it away and re-grouped.
Seeing as she was due to come and see us the week before last I thought it was time to pull it out and sort it out. All I had to do was unpick the flap and make a new one with snaps in the right place but of course I didn't have any of the fabric left so had to buy some more. Does anyone else get annoyed that postage is £3.95 for 1 FQ when a large letter stamp is 90p? Needless to say, if I'm going to spend £3.95 on postage, I'm buying a whole meter.
So I finished the bag off and had 3 minutes to take photos before my mother arrived! Eek!
I went wild with this bag and bought a leather cross body strap for a little bit more of a finished look and I really like it. It was pricey and I'm not sure the leather it's made from is worth the price but I'll definitely be on the look out for leather handles I can cut off charity shop bags in the future!
If you want to make your own satchel bag you can find the pattern in my etsy store for £4 with instant download.
So what do you think, was it worth her waiting for?

I did paisley side tabs to tie in with the flap and hand stitched the leather handles to the side. |
This handle should improve with age as it is real leather. It should wear into a lovely chestnut shade rather than the slightly bright brown it currently is! |
Lined with plain conker brown cotton with one zipped pocket. |
