On the go books blog hop {Win a copy of the book}
08:00Welcome to my stop on the blog tour for On the Go Bags—15 Handmade Purses, Totes & Organizers by Lindsay Conner and Janelle MacKay (Stash Books).
I thought I'd show you a bit more the projects I made for the bag. I made a padded camera insert, it fits perfectly in my Nappy bag pattern, so of course I made a Nappy bag for the book photos.
I left the flap off the front pocket and instead piped both the front and back pockets with cream piping. There's a hidden zip pocket inside the back pocket, which is excellent for hiding keys away when you're out and about.
I also left off the external pleated side pockets for a clean look and I used a double zip. I made this bag with a friend in mind, and she's finally received it back now that the official photos have been taken. She's enjoying using her custom bag!
Unfortunately the only part of this bag that you see in the book is this photo below, of the camera insert INSIDE the nappy bag!
But what you can see of it is great, right?
You can see that I changed the elasticated inside pockets for flat slip pockets so that it didn't encroach on the camera insert.
Here's the camera insert on it's own, you can of course re-size it easily to fit your own bag, but for those with the nappy bag pattern, it makes a great option for your travel bag.
With soft velcro along the sides and bottom, you won't scratch your camera equipment!
There's tons of other projects in the On the go bags book, which was co-written by Lindsay Conner and Janelle MacKay.

i prefer a structured tote with divisions so that magazines and books and my ipad and kindle stand up
ReplyDeleteI love big bags with lots of pockets!
ReplyDeleteI love totes , I carry my iPad , a sketch book , pencils , my lipsticks , wallet & a wallet ..some chocolates ..
ReplyDeleteits such a beautiful bag Samantha - can't believe they didn't put just a leetle external shot of it in the book!
ReplyDeleteoh - I just noticed that I was meant to say what is my useful bag? - Well I need two main every day bags and the ones I have now aren't really ideal but one day I will make what I need!
ReplyDeleteWork bag - lots of pockets - large enough for my diary in its case, because without my diary, I know nuffink...and my purse which is big, and somewhere I can put the stuff I only use occasionally, like makeup and painkillers. Ideally I'd like a pocket for bits of A4 paper and a slot for my phone. Somewhere for snacks and a water bottle would be good too.
Weekend bag - we tend to be out and about a lot at the weekend (ie me, hubby and boys) and I always take a rucksack because I need slots for water bottles (at least two as my eldest won't drink from the same bottle as anyone else) I also generally need spare socks because my youngest always seems to get his feet wet, and in the winter I carry everyones gloves and hats unless they're wearing them. I need somewhere to plonk my purse and phone, somewhere for snacks, and somewhere for emergency gubbins (like plasters and tissues and wipes and stuff)
I love all types of bags.Plenty of pockets is a must. Cross body for a day shopping for hands free to feel the fabrics at the store.
ReplyDeleteFab bag and genius idea with camera bag insert! Thanks for a great giveaway too!
ReplyDeleteI love crossbody bags for everyday running around.
ReplyDeleteA tote with lots of pockets, a backpack or a messenger are my main bags now to keep up with my toddler
ReplyDeleteI love most types of purses but i normally carry large purses. My husband says I travel with everything but the kitchen sink inside my purse. Haha. I very excited about your new book.
ReplyDeleteI use crossbody bags almost exclusively. But then I have no kids that I have to tote lots of stuff for!
ReplyDeleteNo matter what bag I use, I prefer a zip top rather than other forms of closure. I have to look into putting a double zip like you mentioned above into some of my bags.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy OTS bags. so easy to carry and no back pain and they don't slip off your shoulder. Some people have slopping shoulders and some bags just slide right off. I don't have slopping shoulders but I don't have wide shoulders either. So, I like that back carry style. So convenient.
ReplyDeleteI love a shoulder bag foo every day stuff..plus my husband is great for sayin "Here, throw this in your purse for me" lol BUT I am a total Tote "addict"!! LOOOOVE them...for taking projects everywhere..& keepin car neater...and my yarns, etc sorted too! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for chance to win! :)
I like a small shoulder bag for everyday use, but I love the look of this bag. It would be great for traveling.
ReplyDeleteI love large tote bags with organizational pockets. I like to carry a lot but not lose the little things!
ReplyDeleteThe nappy bag would be good for me with all those compartments. Thanks for the chance. sru60@aol.com
ReplyDeleteIn an ideal world, a beach bag would be most useful to me every day. In my not-quite-ideal real life, I need backpacks and cross-body bags to keep my hands free for grabbing bus poles.
ReplyDeleteI like a mid size bag for carrying all my stuff but sometimes I downsize to a small cross body. I use lots of tote bags for all the extra stuff :-)
ReplyDeleteI prefer a large tote-type bag with lots of pockets.
ReplyDeleteI like to use a medium size slouchy purse. If a purse is too large, then I carry around WAY too much with me! I love your Reversible Hobo Bag!
ReplyDeleteSusie
Well, I can tell you that it also makes a great bag to carry for work and holds lots and lots of stuff, including my Kindle. Awesome pattern and product!! ♥♥
ReplyDeleteYour bag is gorgeous! I have just begun my addiction to making bags. My favorites are smaller purse styles, but they still need to hold my 8" tablet with cover. Tote styles are nice, but I like a closed top to keep my stuff safer.
ReplyDeleteI like a mid size bag for work and a smaller one I can wear over my shoulder on the wknd to be hands free. Thanks for a chance to win this great book!!
ReplyDeleteHi Jen,
DeleteCan you send me your email address please? x
I like crossbody bags--the over-the-shoulder bag on the cover looks ideal--because they stay put and aren't too big. The first time I saw your insert on the blog hop, I was astonished to see that someone was so organized that they made something special for water bottles! When I looked more closely (need new glasses, I guess!), I was delighted to see that this is for camera lenses--brilliant :)
ReplyDeleteI like medium size bags I can tuck under my arm.
ReplyDeleteLove big bags! I carry way too much stuff!
ReplyDeleteI love any cross body bag because I like to have both hands free. Lovely fabric choice.

I'm so happy to be done with nappy bags, I've gone as small as possible and love a clutch wallet with a strap!
ReplyDeleteI use tote bags all the time. To carry a book, some sewing, knitting, etc. Always have to have some extra things with me.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nifty idea! The bags I prefer to use as everyday bags are small crossbody bags. I only carry a few nik naks and like my hands to be free.
ReplyDeleteI use mostly smaller cross body or shoulder bags.
ReplyDeleteGreat bag Sam
ReplyDeleteI like totes with lots of pockets!
Most useful for me are cross-body style bags with lots of pockets. I made your Nappy Bag a while back for my Grandson, but really like the photo inserts!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to win, thanks for the chance. I use multiple tote bags every day.
ReplyDeleteA back pack style bag is most useful to me because it's easier on my back and neck so I get fewer migraines.
ReplyDeleteI like a messenger type bag as it stays where I put it, but I seem hard wired to make tote style bags that do keep falling off my shoulder!
ReplyDeleteLove the idea of the backpack hands free for when I'm on my bicycle.
ReplyDeleteI like a small cross body bag with lots of pockets. Keeps my hands free, my self organized and saves my body!
ReplyDeleteI like tablet bags because I carry my tablet everywhere. dawnm1993(at)gmail(dot)com
ReplyDeleteLove this bag and the camera insert. Thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteI love tote bags – plenty of room for my daily stuff, a knitting project or book and lots of pockets
ReplyDeleteI love a cross body bag with lots of pockets inside!!
ReplyDeleteI like a medium size bag with handles that can be shoulder handles.
ReplyDeleteI like crossbody bags -- they feel secure and I can find what I'm looking for easily.
ReplyDeleteWell, I hadn't seen the nappy bag before, but I love your adaptations - it would make a great everyday bag, especially with the padded camera inserts. i suppose you could make other inserts too for various purposes. Normally I just use tote bags, but the nappy is a winner. Love all the bags presented in the book - hope I win it!
ReplyDeleteAll the bags are great! I think I would make the grocery cart bag first. It would make my couponing so much easier at the grocery store.
ReplyDeleteI love an over the shoulder bag with at least one zippered pocket to hold my keys and cash. I need to make this camera insert for my camera, just have to pick the perfect bag to go with it, maybe that will be the nappy bag.
ReplyDeleteI like a big shoulder bag with room for my laptop.
ReplyDeleteI like a big shoulder bag with room for my laptop.
ReplyDeleteA cross body bag with multiple pockets is my go to everytime I leave home. :) That way I have 2 hands free to shop or deal with my kids.
ReplyDeleteLove cross body messenger style bags for carrying my laptop, notebooks, and most importantly, my coffee thermos for late night grad school library stops.
