Spare room update

08:00

Thought it was about time for a house update so here's some pics of our spare room now. Guest room I should start calling it because it's where guests stay.

The room was already magnolia with a dark brown carpet so we've gone for basic colours in here at the moment until we can update it. It's not offensive as it is and the light colour sets off the colours we do have in here. I'd love to do an 80 days around the world sort of theme one day but whether I get around to it or not, we'll see!

View from the door. It's a fairly large room by UK standards, I am just rubbish at showing that by photo!

This painting used to hang above the mantelpiece in my home growing up so I was really blessed to be able to have it to hang in our guest room.

I don't mind the bedside tables not matching but when I can find a matching pair of lamps I think that would help. It's nice to have light bedding on a guest bed I think, it looks nice and fresh and clean. And you can stain remover it when your nephew knocks his mum's cup of tea on it :)

On the side with the door I've put in my dressing table which I don't use anymore, it just needs a small stool if I can find one. It's also got my 1930's gentleman's wardrobe topped off with some vintage suitcases. Ok, they're old. One is wartime and one is 60's and I love them both. £5 each from Too good to Waste. I think the wardrobe was only £15 or £20 from there too. I love the walnut veneer and would love to stain the orange pine of the dressing table and bed to match, but that's quite far down on the list of priorities.

I saw this blanket box outside our neighbour's house on bin day and knocked to ask if I could have it. It's perfectly good and clean, they were just redecorating and didn't need this 70's monstrosity beauty. I've got grand plans to recover it one day. One day....

The one thing I didn't mess with was the view! We kept the vertical blinds and added black denim curtains because the sun comes up over this side and with just the blinds you end up with sun burning into the back of your eye balls. The curtains could do with a black out lining to make the room pitch black but they're perfectly good at the moment at darkening it and stopping the sun intruding too much.

Our guest room is at the back of the house and is really quiet, there's nothing either side because we have a lane to one side of the house and the other side neighbour's don't have an extension at the same height as ours. It's a lovely peaceful room.

I'm sure there'll be another update before too long!

  1. I can't wait to come and visit. Thanks for getting it ready for me. LOLLL
I never thought of having denim curtains. Good idea. I too love white or cream non fussy bedding. I saw some lampshades made with fabric rags on the internet, so cute I'm sure you could make some yourself. This room has so much potential and that view is stunning. Can't wait to wake up and look out of the window when I visit. LOLL I'm no trouble at all I promise and perhaps we can work on some crafts for it too. See you soon. LOLL

  2. Cool - one important question... Is the bed comfy? When I travel half way round the globe to visit I would like a good sleep. :P And then we can have some fun getting into those projects together. Love that view.

  4. That's a beautiful window and a perfect view! How big is that blanket box? Looks like it could double as a coffin. ;-) Your 'spare oom' is lovely! I love the clean, white look. So fresh.

  5. Dee I can say the bed is very comfy. The room is peaceful and extremely quite. As ti the sun the curtains work a treat. I would also add the hostess is lovely and would look after you so well you will not want to go home. I know I never want to leave but I am sure my daughter is always glad when I do
