My mother's disco Beatnik bag

08:00

My mother makes jewellery, and she'd been telling my sister about the fairs she has coming up when what should pop up in my inbox? A pattern test for Sara at Sew Sweetness for a bum bag! Hurrah, perfect timing or what?

I called my mum and asked her what colour she'd like, fully expecting her to say purple or lilac...nope, black and silver to match her table coverings.

I used a black pillowcase for the outer so I quilted it to the soft & stable to give it the bulk and then I used silver lamé  for the front pockets with silver pearl snaps.

I used a dark grey zip. Everything for this bag came from my stash apart from the clip release buckle.

I bought a silver metal buckle, then used a 1" silver nickel triglide from my own etsy store rather than buying some specifically for webbing. I should have bought a webbing one!!

As you can see my snaps really pulled on my fabric when I was setting them, will snap pliers solve this can anyone tell me? I have been using a hammer....

I used this scrap of star cotton for the pocket inside as a bit of contrast and to help her find her phone!

There's plenty of space for her float and anything else she needs, tissues, mints etc.

This pattern only has 3 pattern pieces and is incredibly easy to make. If you can make a zipped pouch, you can make this easy peasy. If you have never made a zipped pouch, you can make this too, Sara talks you through the steps really clearly with tons of colour photos.

Sometimes it's nice to make something you don't have to fathom out or fight with the pieces, isn't it?

You can buy this pattern in Sara's pattern shop.
